Roy vs Weber Football Rivalry
The Shield · 60 meetings · Marquee
Roy leads 34–26 — 60 meetings since 1950. The rivalry began in 1965, per Weber School District.
How it started
The rivalry began in 1965, per Weber School District. Why it began is not documented — there is no recorded school split or boundary fight behind it, just two Weber County schools a short drive apart that have played every year since.
The trophy
An elaborate shield carrying the seals of both schools. Roy's head coach has called it one of the best-looking trophies in the state. The year it was introduced is not documented.
The games that made it
August 30, 2024 produced the highest-scoring game in series history, Roy 48-34 over an unbeaten Weber, with Roy's Robert Young scoring five touchdowns including a 74-yard run to put it away. In 2020 Weber won on a blocked field goal and a goal-line stand to take a share of the Region 1 title. Weber took the 2026 meeting 53-35 behind six touchdowns from quarterback Carter Payne. A live subplot: Weber head coach Mo Cannon is a former Roy assistant, and is 2-1 in the game since taking the Weber job in 2024.
Traditions
Large crowds and, in the district's own words, an electric atmosphere. Little else is documented.
Where it stands
Both are Region 1 schools. Now played as an early-season Thursday night fixture.
On the record
