Herriman vs Mountain Ridge Football Rivalry
6 meetings · Strong
Mountain Ridge leads 5–1 — 6 meetings since 2019. The same thing happening twice.
How it started
The same thing happening twice. Mountain Ridge opened in fall 2019 as the second high school in the city of Herriman, built for overcrowding and commute distance at Herriman High — which had itself been built out of Riverton nine years earlier. The campuses are 4.7 miles apart, and the West Jordan Journal notes that when the boundaries changed in 2019 many of the students affected were still in middle school.
The games that made it
A short series and a lopsided one: Mountain Ridge leads 5-1, including a win that handed Herriman its first loss of a season. Mountain Ridge's coach afterward: "Every single year, this game is going to be big" — the clearest statement that both programs treat it as the annual marquee game regardless of records.
Where it stands
Region 2 fixture.
What we could not find
Nothing significant — this is one of the better-sourced new rivalries in the state.
